Agee, Boxley named to Southwest Virginia Business Hall of Fame

The heads of Carilion Clinic and Boxley Materials will be inducted into the Southwest Virginia Business Hall of Fame. Nancy Howell Agee, president and CEO of Carilion Clinic, and Abney S. Boxley III, president and CEO of Boxley Materials Co., will be honored on Oct. 21 at the Hotel Roanoke & Conference Center.

The event, sponsored by the Junior Achievement of Southwest Virginia, recognizes leaders who serve as business role models for the region’s youth. Proceeds will benefit Junior Achievement, an organization whose mission is to educate young people about business, economics and free enterprise.

Carilion Clinic is a healthcare organization headquartered in Roanoke that includes eight hospitals, the Jefferson College of Health Sciences and a medical school with Virginia Tech.  Agee has been with Carilion for more than 20 years.

She serves on several boards including the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association, Roanoke Gas Co., HomeTown Bank and The Taubman Museum.  Agee also has  served as vice rector for the Radford University Board of Visitors and chaired the Foundation of Roanoke Valley. Earlier this year, she was named one of Virginia Business’ Most Influential Virginians.

Boxley Materials Co., based in Blue Ridge, makes construction materials like aggregate, asphalt, block and concrete. Boxley is a director of RGC Resources Inc. (Roanoke Gas Company), chairman of the board of Valley Financial Corp. (Valley Bank), a director of Carilion Clinic and board member of the Carilion Foundation.

Jack Avis, owner of Avis Construction, also will be recognized  as the Young Entrepreneur of the Year. Avis Construction is a full-service general contractor specializing in commercial and industrial construction. Avis’ duties include general management, financial management, risk management, project management and sales.
