Alexander Hamilton IV to retire from CBRE| Richmond

Alexander Hamilton IV, a broker and executive in Richmond’s real estate community for more than four decades, is retiring from the Richmond office of CBRE at the end of week.

Hamilton, senior vice president of global corporate services, has worked for CBRE since 2001. His specialty is representing corporate tenants on real estate requirements.  During his career, he has handled many corporate relocations and transactions for the state.

Hamilton served as president and CEO of Virginia Landmark, a boutique real estate firm, from 1980 until 2001, when CBRE acquired the firm. In 1986, Landmark was the first commercial firm in the region to specialize in tenant/buyer representation in Central Virginia. When Hamilton and two of his partners from Landmark came to CBRE, they focused on making tenant representation a specialized service at the firm.

Hamilton began his real estate career in 1971. His first job was with Virginia Real Estate Investment Trust in Richmond where he worked in acquisitions and sales.

Asked about one of the most challenging deals over his long career, Hamilton said it was a smaller transaction representing Fox Television. “We did it in Richmond and also the affiliate in Buffalo. It wasn’t a huge deal, but it was challenging because you had to deal with the communications industry — signals, transmitters, things like that. “

After he steps down from the world of work on Friday, Jan. 15, Hamilton says he and his wife plan to take a trip to Florida, and he will continue to be active in the community.  Hamilton serves on the board of Gateway Homes, a nonprofit that provides residential treatment in Chesterfield and Fairfax Counties for people with a mental illness.
