AMC show filmed in Central Virginia premieres April 6

A colonial era spy series that was filmed in Central Virginia will premiere on AMC Sunday, April 6 at 9 p.m.  The economic impact of “Turn” shooting in Virginia is estimated to be $45 million per season with 600 people involved in filming.  

“Turn,” based on research from the book “Washington’s Spies” by Alexander Rose, centers around Abraham Woodhull, a farmer living behind enemy lines in British-occupied Long Island. Woodhull bands together with a group of childhood friends to form The Culper Ring: a team of secret agents who help George Washington turn the war in favor of the Americans.

The first season of the show was filmed at locations such as Shirley, Westover, Tuckahoe, Kittiewan and Scotchtown plantations. The series has also filmed in Petersburg, including at Center Hill Mansion, the Farmer’s Market, South Side Depot and Cockade Alley.  

The series stars include Jamie Bell (who previously starred in “Billy Elliot”) as Woodhull, Seth Numrich as Ben Tallmadge, Heather Lind as Anna Strong and Daniel Henshall as Caleb Brewster.  

“Turn” will be eligible for Virginia incentives based on expenditures in the commonwealth and deliverables such as Virginia Tourism Corp. advertising.
