What trends are you seeing in bankruptcies since the height of the recession?  Overall, the total number of bankruptcy case filings has declined since the recession, which is to be expected. One disturbing trend is how expensive it has become for business Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases. However, there may be some relief on this issue with the recent passage of the Small Business Reorganization Act of 2019.

Which was your most interesting or challenging bankruptcy case? In 2015, the Sands Anderson Bankruptcy Team served as co-counsel to the unsecured creditors committee in the Alpha Natural Resources Inc. Chapter 11 bankruptcy case. Alpha was one of the largest coal companies in the United States at the time of the filing. Following negotiated settlements with numerous parties on numerous contested issues, a Chapter 11 plan was confirmed.
