German company opening first U.S. manufacturing operation

Germany-based TAG Chemicals GmbH is establishing its first manufacturing operation in the U.S. in Virginia Beach.

TAG America Inc., a subsidiary of TAG Chemicals, will produce water-based, non-toxic, specialty chemicals at a 6,400-square-foot facility at 5721 Bayside Road.

According to a news release issued by the city of Virginia Beach, Harvey Lindsay Commercial Real Estate represented the landlord in the transaction.

TAG Chemicals was founded in 2003. It operates in Germany, South Africa, India and the Czech Republic.

TAG America Inc. conducted a real estate search in several states on the East Coast for the expansion. 

“We believe the strategic location, the favorable business climate and the support we received make Hampton Roads and Virginia Beach the best location for TAG America Inc,” Andreas Kemper, managing director for TAG Chemicals, said in a statement.

The company will initially hire six employees, and plans to expand as its North American customers grow. Hiring is scheduled to begin in spring 2016.
