Leidos lands $2B contract to provide military counseling

Reston contractor to provide nonmedical counseling to service members, families

Published February 4, 2021 by Sydney Lake

Reston-based Fortune 500 government contractor Leidos Holdings Inc. announced Tuesday it has received a $2 billion contract to provide nonmedical counseling to military service members and their families through the Department of Defense’s Military and Family Life Counseling (MFLC) program.

Under the contract, Leidos will provide face-to-face nonmedical counseling, consultation and outreach services at approximately 100 U.S. military installations and civilian communities. Established in 2004, DOD’s MFLC program provides services members with confidential counseling.

“The health and welfare of our military and their families is vital to our national security and readiness,” Leidos Health Group President Liz Porter said in a statement. “With over 16,000 veterans employed by Leidos and as a proud military spouse myself, this work is both meaningful and personal. We’re committed to excellence and look forward to supporting military families through this new contract.”

The contract was awarded by the U.S. General Services Administration, Federal Systems Integration and Management Center (FEDSIM) in support of the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Military Community and Family Policy (MC&FP) and the Office of Military Community Support Programs (MCSP).

“For over 50 years, Leidos has been proud to serve the military and veteran community,” Leidos Chairman and CEO Roger Krone said in a statement. “We are excited to expand this legacy by supporting the MFLC program, service members and their families as they navigate the challenges and joys of military life.”

Services will be provided at facilities in the western U.S., eastern Asia, the Pacific Islands and the Middle East. Leidos will also provide management and logistical support for counselors, who must be formally credentialed or certified.

With annual revenues of $11.09 billion last year and 37,000 employees, Leidos specializes in technology and engineering services for defense agencies.
