Macedon Technologies set for $1.65M expansion in Reston

Project is expected to produce 147 tech jobs

Published January 23, 2020 by Kate Andrews

Macedon Technologies will expand its corporate headquarters in Reston, investing $1.65 million and creating an expected 147 jobs, Gov. Ralph Northam announced Thursday.

The privately held software company, founded in 2009, is an Appian platform partner that provides programs for managing workflow and projects for businesses in several industries, including health care, insurance, manufacturing, energy, education and government. The company is leasing 12,000 square feet at 11694 Plaza America Drive, adjacent to its current offices at the Plaza America shopping center.

The company moved to its current space in 2018 and has a second office in Austin, Texas. In 2018, Macedon had 130 employees, and it was one of the 2014 Inc. 5000 fastest-growing companies in the nation, as well as Virginia Business’ top small employer in the 2018 Best Places to Work list.

“After extensive evaluation of several locations across the United States, Macedon decided that Virginia is the optimal location for our expansion for many reasons,” founder and CEO Austin Rosenfeld said in a statement. “The high quality of living in Northern Virginia and its proximity to Washington, D.C., helps us to attract and retain top talent. Reston has excellent public transportation, including Metro and two nearby major airports — as a consultant company, easy access to airports is a must.” He also mentioned that Virginia’s universities provide the company with access to a deep talent pool.

The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority worked with the Virginia Economic Development Partnership to secure the project for Virginiae, which competed with Texas, and will provide job creation support through the state-funded Virginia Jobs Investment Program.

“I am delighted to see Macedon Technologies growing, because it is a perfect fit for Fairfax County and the region,” FCEDA President and CEO Victor Hoskins said in a statement. “The company’s expertise in low-code software applications takes full advantage of the technology skills that our regional workforce has in abundance, and the company’s focus on talent attraction and retention will help it continue to thrive here.”
