Reston-based federal contractor NCI Information Systems Inc. announced Tuesday that Chuck Hicks has been promoted to chief operating officer in addition to holding his current position as chief financial officer.

Hicks joined the company in 2019 and has been serving as acting COO since March. In his combined role, he will focus on operations and partnerships within the technology industry.

“Chuck is a truly exceptional leader and collaborator across teams — as a result, he has brought immense value to our company over the past year,” NCI President and CEO Paul A. Dillahay said in a statement. “He has been invaluable in helping us navigate through the challenges the COVID‑19 pandemic has presented these last several months.”

Before NCI, Hicks served as CFO for real estate firm Cresa Global Inc. He has also held executive leadership roles with SC3 LLC (a General Dynamics Corp. subsidiary), ASRC Federal Holding Corp., Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC) and USIS. Hicks also served in the U.S. Navy for six years. He earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland at College Park.

Founded in 1989, NCI provides information technology services (including artificial intelligence) to U.S. defense, intelligence, health and civilian government agencies. The company last year reported more than $268 million in revenue and employs more than 1,000 people.
