Centreville-based defense contractor Parsons Corp. announced Monday it has appointed Carey Smith, its president and chief operating officer, to the company’s board of directors.

Smith oversees Parsons’ global operations and corporate growth strategy.

“Carey has been central to our growth and success since joining Parsons,” Parsons Chairman and CEO Chuck Harrington said in a statement. “Her proven track record at Parsons, operational leadership, proximity to our customers and their needs and experience on other boards make her a natural addition to our board.”

Smith joined Parsons in 2016 as president of the company’s federal solutions business and was appointed as COO in 2018. In 2019 she was promoted to president and COO. She earned her bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Ohio Northern University, her master’s degree in electrical engineering from Syracuse University and an honorary doctorate degree from Ohio Northern University. She also serves on the boards of Edison International, the U.S. Geospatial Intelligence Foundation and the Professional Services Council.

Founded in 1944, Parsons provides infrastructure, defense and security services to federal, regional and local government agencies and private industrial customers.
