Pocahontas Parkway operator launches toll payment app

Globalvia's Slora app works on major Virginia toll roads

Published October 14, 2020 by Sydney Lake

Madrid-based Globalvia, which operates the Pocahontas Parkway (State Route 895) in Chesterfield and Henrico counties, has launched a new toll payment app that allows drivers to pay tolls in real time on Virginia toll roads without a prepaid pass.

The Slora app is accepted on Virginia toll roads including Interstates 64, 66, 95, 395 and 495, as well as the Pocahontas Parkway, Powhite Parkway Extension, Dulles Toll Road, Chesapeake Expressway, Dominion Boulevard, South Norfolk Jordan Bridge, Coleman Bridge and Elizabeth River Tunnels (Midtown and Downtown).

“We are thrilled to offer this exciting new app to anyone traveling throughout the commonwealth of Virginia,” Antonio Moreno, Pocahontas Parkway’s operations director, said in a statement. “Whether you are driving your own vehicle or a rental car, Slora is a great solution to help drivers get where they need to go while completely bypassing cash toll lanes. It will help take the stop-and-go out of your trip, and registration only takes a minute.”

After a user downloads the app, signs up for an account and enters their license plate and credit card information, the app will pay the toll when the driver uses an E-ZPass Express Lane. Drivers can track their spending and add multiple vehicles to one account.

Rather than using GPS or location tracking, Slora employs image processing to keep track of tolls. A license plate photo is taken when a user goes through the toll, and the photo is cross-referenced with the E-ZPass database (where the user’s information is stored), according to Globalvia.

“We continue to work towards smart infrastructure, making commutes, family road trips and driving around Virginia that much easier for everyone,” Moreno said in a statement.

Established in 2007, Globalvia is a worldwide transport infrastructure concession management company that manages 25 projects in seven countries specializing in highways and railways.
