The Greater Washington Partnership names first CEO

Published January 25, 2017 by Veronica Garabelli

Jason Miller begins his tenure April 1.

The Greater Washington Partnership, which seeks to advance economic issues in the region spanning Baltimore to Richmond, has named its first CEO.

Jason Miller will begin his tenure April 1, reporting to the partnership’s board of directors.

The partnership is a team of CEOs from the Greater Washington region—from Baltimore to Richmond—who want to promote the economic strengths of the region and work together on key interests such as transportation, infrastructure and economic development initiatives.

Founding investors of the organization include CEOs and leaders from Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C., including Reston-based Ramsey Asset Management; McLean-based Capital One Financial Corp. and Richmond-based Dominion Resources.

Miller most recently served as deputy assistant to former president Barack Obama and deputy director of the National Economic Council.

In his previous role, Miller launched the Manufacturing USA program in 2012, growing it to a network of 14 public-private manufacturing institutes that aim to develop technologies and new workforce solutions to secure the future of manufacturing in the United States.

He also led the White House’s efforts to provide Puerto Rico the tools it needs to address its current crisis and create a path to recovery.
Miller developed SelectUSA, a federal effort to bring job-creating investment to the U.S. from around the world.

He was also central to the Obama administration’s transportation, energy, and infrastructure initiatives, including the creation of fuel efficiency standards for light-duty vehicles, the first-ever federal automated vehicle policy, and the passage of a long-term surface transportation bill.

Prior to working with the Obama administration, Miller was a management consultant for The Boston Consulting Group and Marakon Associates. He advised companies on strategic and operational issues, including helping them with business expansions and capital investment.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania; an MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management, and a Master of Public Administration from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.

He lives in Chevy Chase, Md., with his wife, Katy, and their two children.
