The Hilb Group acquires N.C.-based insurance agency

Henrico County insurance company has made 100+ acquisitions

Published January 13, 2021 by Sydney Lake

Henrico County-based insurance company The Hilb Group LLC announced Tuesday it has acquired Maiden, North Carolina-based insurance agency Dwayne Wilson Insurance & Financial Services Inc., effective Dec. 31.

Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Founded in 1985, DWI is a full-service life and health agency. It provides insurance products to employer groups and individuals. Under the transaction, company owner Dwayne Wilson and his team will join THG’s Southeast regional operations.

“We are excited to take our business in this new direction and look forward to working with everyone at THG,” Wilson said in a statement. “Our team is committed to continuing our service to clients and welcomes the resources that THG can provide.”

THG was founded in 2009 and has been a portfolio company of Washington, D.C.-based investment management company The Carlyle Group since late 2019. Across its 90 offices in 21 states, the company employs more than 900 people. Since 2015, THG has acquired more than 100 companies.

“We are excited to welcome Dwayne and his team to THG,” THG CEO Ricky Spiro said in a statement. “We are confident they will strengthen our employee benefits practice and presence in the region.”
