Universal Fiber Systems creates business development group

Published October 8, 2013 by Robert Powell, III

Bristol-based Universal Fiber Systems LLC has created a business development group as part of its market diversification strategy.

Based in Universal Fiber Systems’ headquarters and manufacturing facility in Bristol, the group will be led by Don Campbell, vice president of business and technical development.

The group will be assigned to find new market opportunities. In conjunction with forming the business development group, Universal Fibers Inc., a company subsidiary, recently purchased the continuous filament bicomponent assets of Fiber Innovation Technology Inc. in Johnson City, Tenn.

“As we continue to grow Universal Fibers’ leading global position in solution-dyed commercial, residential and automotive carpet fiber, this group will actively be expanding its product offering and marketplace presence to reach new markets for Universal Fibers,” Marc Ammen, Universal Fiber Systems’ CEO, said in a statement.

“These markets will include performance apparel, interior furnishings, filtration, technical/industrial, geotextiles, and medical,” he said. “We also expect these expanded technologies to support traditional markets for existing customers of Universal Fibers as well as those of Premiere Fibers, both of which are business units within Universal Fiber Systems.”

Universal Fiber Systems includes two business units: Universal Fibers Inc. and Premiere Fibers Inc.

Based in Bristol, with manufacturing facilities in Europe, Thailand and China, Universal Fibers Inc. produces solution-dyed synthetic filament-based fibers for the flooring, transportation and industrial fibers industries.

Premiere Fibers produces highly customized performance fibers for applications in industrial, military and apparel markets. Premiere Fibers is based in Ansonville, N.C., with additional manufacturing in China, and distribution in Europe and Asia.
