Neal Graham headed association for 19 years; board announces executive search

The Virginia Community Healthcare Association’s CEO, Neal Graham, is stepping down, the organization’s board announced Monday. His last day is July 31, after serving 19 years.

“The past 19 years have given me the opportunity to work with some of the very best in the health center world, and I am appreciative of the experience,” Graham said in a statement.

Based in Henrico County and founded in 1980, VCHA advocates for accessible health care through community health centers and rural clinics, and has 30 member organizations that operate 120 sites statewide. Graham oversaw the organization during a period of major growth, from 54 clinics serving 158,000 patients and financial reserves of $103,705 in 2001, to 376,000 patients and reserves of nearly $5 million, according to Gary Campbell, vice president of VCHA’s Board of Directors. “Neal helped guide the centers through Medicaid expansion, 19 years of unqualified audits and oversaw construction of the Westerre Conference Center. We are proud of his successes and wish him all the best in his new endeavors.”

Graham is leaving to pursue new opportunities, according to the statement, and board member Angela Futrell, CEO of the Southeastern Virginia Health System, is leading the recruitment effort.
