Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation adds new position

The Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation has named Chris Smith to the newly-created position of chief of policy, communications and legislative affairs. He starts work on Jan. 6 and will be based in Richmond.

Smith most recently served as the senior program manager for freight at the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials. In that role, he directed policy, technical service and government relations related to multi-modal freight transportation for state governments.

His previous experience also includes serving as the vice president of public policy for the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce and working in the Florida legislature.
