Wash.-based telecomm company buys Vienna satellite tech firm

Kymeta Corp. acquires Lepton Global Solutions LLC

Redmond, Washington-based mobile communications company Kymeta Corp. announced Tuesday it has acquired Vienna-based satellite technology company Lepton Global Solutions LLC.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. 

Lepton will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Kymeta under the acquisition. Founded in 2013, Lepton provides satellite communication services to intelligence agencies, special operations commands and other government clients, while Kymeta provides connectivity services to commercial, residential and government clients.

“Having a turnkey satellite service provider like Lepton accelerates Kymeta’s ability to successfully penetrate U.S. military and government customers in partnership with a well-established brand, deep channel experience and network support for those verticals,” Kymeta President and Chief Operating Officer Walter Berger said in a statement. “The combination of Kymeta’s revolutionary hardware, together with Lepton’s service offerings, will be a winning combination that will be hard to beat.”

The goal of the acquisition is to enhance customer experience, thus there will be no interruption in short-term service, according to the companies.

“Government and commercial sectors need the most reliable and seamless connectivity to successfully fulfill their daily missions,” Lepton Managing Partner Rob Weitendorf said in a statement. “This new venture will enable our customers to leverage the expertise of Lepton and Kymeta to receive more customized services and solutions, while maintaining Lepton’s legacy of providing the best of breed solutions always with a focus on the customer’s mission.”
