Ashburn data center company announces $2B European expansion

Based in California, Vantage Data Centers expanded to Va. in 2019

Published February 10, 2020 by Sydney Lake

Santa Clara, California-based data center campus company Vantage Data Centers, which opened an Ashburn location in 2019, will expand in Europe through a $2 billion investment, the company announced Monday.

Vantage will acquire data center company Etix Everywhere SA, which has a data center campus in Frankfurt, Germany. Vantage will develop data center campuses in Berlin, Germany; Milan, Italy; Warsaw, Poland; and Zurich, Switzerland. Although the expansion will involve a $2 billion investment, financial terms of the Etix acquisition itself was not disclosed.

Etix’s former CEO Antoine Boniface will join the executive team as president of Europe. Josh Buis, who currently serves as Vantage’s vice president of international business development, will expand his role and become senior vice president of sales and business development for Europe.

“As data center demand from our customer base continues to rapidly increase worldwide, Vantage is embarking upon its largest expansion ever into Europe through the development of five strategic markets,” Vantage CEO and President Sureel Choksi said in a statement. “The acquisition of Etix accelerates our expansion to Frankfurt, Europe’s highest growth hyperscale market. We are very excited to welcome Antoine and his team to lead our European business.”

The following European facilities are currently being constructed: 13-acre Berlin campus, 8-acre Frankfurt campus, 17-acre Milan campus, 12-acre Warsaw campus and 7-acre Zurich campus.
