Fairfax-based MainStreet Bancshares Inc. (parent company of MainStreet Bank) announced Wednesday that Thomas Cary has been promoted to lead MainStreet Bank’s business banking division.

Cary has been with MainStreet Bank as a business banker for 10 years. While earning his bachelor’s degree in finance from George Mason University, he started his banking career as a teller at a local bank.

He then worked with Bank of America Corp. for 16 years, and also worked with MortgageStar LLC as branch manager. Before joining MainStreet Bank, he had been a branch manager with BB&T (now Truist Financial Corp.).

Cary serves as treasurer and member of the board of the Barber Family Foundation, a nonprofit organization in Chantilly that helps send children of military members to college. He also is a member of the Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce.

MainStreet Bank operates seven branches in Herndon, Fairfax County, the city of Fairfax, McLean, Leesburg, Clarendon and Washington, D.C.
